Telemedicine Resources:
You should not simply self-medicate unless your exact condition has been
established by a doctor visit and whatever tests are necessary to confirm that
condition and its possible remedies have been performed. Do NOT purchase a
medication simply to mask annoying symptoms unless you know the exact cause as
confirmed by prior diagnosis by a "brick and mortar" medical facility.
This could be a fatal mistake!
Normally pain is trying to tell you something. For many of us, pain or other
recurring symptoms turn out to be something intractable that we must simply
learn to live with. However only a doctor visit can make that determination.
Perhaps not a single doctor visit either; doctors are human too and sometimes
make mistakes. Get second and third opinions. After establishing your condition
and learning what medication helps your quality of life in terms of dealing with
that condition, only should you seek out the services of a Telemedicine Provider
to continue this therapy.
Virtually every Telemedicine Website warns prospective patients that their
consultations should not take the place of the treatment and advice from your
usual Primary Care Physician. A patient should only use an on-line doctor to
continue treatment for a DIAGNOSED condition. Ostensibly what sent you to the
Telemedicine Provider is the convenience, compassion and follow-up care that any
quality Telemedicine Provider is best suited to provide.
I had an acquaintance a few years back who was experiencing rectal bleeding
which grew increasingly severe. Such a symptom requires immediate medical
attention! This gentleman apparently went into denial and became convinced that
this bleeding was happening because of a vitamin and/or diet deficiency. He
faithfully followed the advice of a doctor with a radio program who advocated
that most conditions can be treated by adjustments to diet. In his own mind,
this therapy seemed to be helping, so he postponed seeing a doctor or scheduling
a colonoscopy. I had fallen out of touch with this man else I might have been
able to change his perspective on his situation. I only learned of his
predicament when I received the devastating news that this poor fellow had
succumbed to colon cancer at the age of 41. G_d rest his soul.
Enough said.
